Earthlings Beware! at The Costa Mesa Playhouse
By Robin Walton for The Orange County Science Fiction Club
Just attended the Costa Mesa Playhouse production of Mike Brown's "Earthlings Beware!" It's a play based on the 1950's low budget sci-fi movies. Lots of corny cheese and standard 50's over-the-top plot and dialogue.
The fun starts in the 2nd act when the ultra-low-budget special effects turn the play into one laugh after another. Both Rachel Garland and Barbara Duncan Brown turn in superb performances, cleverly balancing the (on purpose) stilted lines with genuine acting. When you go, be sure and seat yourself as soon as they open the theater as you won't want to miss the trailers for the old movies! Also mention the Orange County Science Fiction Club and the $16 ticket will be only $10. Bring your own snacks as the concessions are way over-priced.
Performances are Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through November 20th.
